Embark on a journey to explore the captivating world of elaborately illustrated manuscripts from the Italian Renaissance, crafted between 1370 and 1420 in the renowned Scriptorium of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Florence. Join us as Professor Rebekah Compton, an esteemed scholar and passionate expert of the Italian Renaissance, shares her expertise. As Associate Professor of Art History specializing in Renaissance and Baroque Art at the College of Charleston, Professor Compton will delve into her research focusing on the remarkable 15 volumes of antiphonal choral books adorned with paintings by the masterful hands of Don Lorenzo Monaco and artists close to Fra Angelico.

During the talk, Professor Compton will unravel the intricacies of the geometric linework embellishing these manuscripts, unveiling hidden motifs and mesmerizing patterns. Attendees will also have the unique opportunity to witness a demonstration showcasing the various materials, including parchment and pigments, utilized in the creation of these extraordinary masterpieces.
