Every day at Thornwell Books, we have customers who ask for advice on what to buy for children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Parents worry about what they should be doing to prepare their children for school or, once they begin attending, if they are meeting the standards to be successful. Thornwell Books reached out to the experts for help. We are pleased to announce that on Thursday August 28th at 6pm, Thornwell Books will host a talk by local educator, Dr. Melanie Mikusa who will discuss early literacy in children from three to eight years old, how to strengthen your child's literacy development and help encourage the habits of a lifelong learner. And hopefully we will get some book recommendations as well!Dr. Mikusa has over 27 years of experience in education. She spent 11 years in the classroom, primarily teaching kindergarten and first grade before serving the last 16 years as Head of School at Morganton Day School. She holds a Master's degree in reading and special education and a Doctorate in educational leadership.
Please join us for this for this unusual opportunity to hear from an educator well versed in early childhood development who can answer your parenting questions and concerns. Reach out to your young parent friends, play group buddies or fellow PTA attenders and share this opportunity. We hope to see you on the 28th!
