This event is 2 of 3 sessions in the CIPD Leicestershire Early Careers Programme 2025–26 designed to complement university course curriculums, provide career development support, and strengthen the connection between academic learning and professional practice.
Fair Work and the HR Professional: Law, Ethics and Employee Relations
This session focuses on what “fair work” means in practice and how HR professionals ensure people are treated legally, ethically, and respectfully at work.
We will explore real examples of employee relations issues and discuss how HR uses judgement, communication, and professional values to manage them well.
What you’ll learn
1. What “fair work” means and why it matters.
2. The basics of how law, ethics and employee relations connect in day-to-day HR work.
3. How HR professionals make balanced, fair decisions.
4. Practical examples of real employee issues and how they are resolved.
5. Explore topics of interest with experienced HR professionals
Who is it for?
MSc HRM students/HRM undergraduates, early career professionals, HR business partners and anyone and wants to understand more about this topic.
Open to CIPD non-members and members.
All students from Leicester, DMU, and Loughborough are welcome.
Free Parking is available at Brookfield Campus and the nearby Freeman’s multi-storey car park is a paid option.
Guest speakers profile:
– Fairness expert and founder of business psychology consultancy The People Deal. Creator of the ward-winning Fairness Framework.
– People Lead for Transformation Programmes at DHL Supply Chain. A senior HR Leader with extensive industry experience across multiple roles and disciplines.
– Partner at law firm Howes Percival. An expert in employment law.
