2nd show is from 11:00-11:45am.
Imagine this--an enchanting garden inhabited by a friendly flower, a sweet fern, a funny tree snail, and a wise owl. They’re all colorful characters representing local plants and animals trying to help their caterpillar friend flourish and grow into a butterfly.
Preschool children and their caregivers are invited to engage in a multisensory, participatory experience, incorporating puppetry, physical theatre, song, and dance.
The children themselves are characters in the story and will leave with the message that it is okay to grow at your own pace!
The play is performed outside where children can feel the breeze on their skin. Over the course of about 40 minutes, we will explore themes of growth and transformation, with motifs that include butterflies, rainbows, sun, rain, and wind.To deepen the experience, families can start their visit with a pre-show hands-on activity involving a planting activity by E Ulu E Ola and art activities.
There are also opportunities to explore the museum before or after the show.
Play is integral to learning. There is abundant research that early dramatic play helps young children to develop an understanding of the world around them. In offering the opportunity for play in nature, we hope to plant a seed within, making beneficial and lasting connections, creating adults that care for, and advocate for, themselves and the environment.Thus, this production has the potential for impacting the lives of young children and their families. The stunning setting of the Sculpture Garden increases this impact.
