Join KPBS Kids at the Otay Mesa-Nestor Library for a very special Día de los Niños Fiesta!

For Pre-K - Third Grade

El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day), commonly known as Día, is a nationally recognized initiative that emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Join us at the Otay Mesa-Nestor Library for a celebration of literacy and STEAM education! Children and families will enjoy hand-on activities, story time, a book giveaway, and a special visit from Elinor* from PBS Kids' hit animated series, Elinor Wonders Why!

*Access to the event’s character meet-and-greet may be restricted based on attendance. The photo opportunity with the costume character is subject to availability and weather permitting.


Tentative Program

10:00 a.m. -10:30 a.m. – Story time with local author Miriam Aguilar Escobar, followed by dance and movement!

10:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. - Joe Bloom presents Mij’o Muzik

10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. - Book signing (the book discount for attendees is $20.00 - checks and/or cash accepted)

10:45 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. & 11:30am – 12:00 p.m. – Photos with KPBS Kids character, Elinor Wonders Why

10:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Hands-on activities


More about Miriam Aguilar Escobar!

Miriam Aguilar Escobar currently serves as the State Deputy Director for Women for State League of United Latin American Citizens, and Vice-President San Diego Education LULAC Council #3198. In addition to her service to LULAC, her activism at local, state, and national levels has proven her leadership skills in education and civil rights. Now, in her new journey as a children’s book author, Miriam wants to bring joy and help create a magical world through literature for young children. She has authored The Mammal Party, and soon to be published in Spanish, La fiesta de los mamiferos.
