About this Event
2 DAY WEEKEND WORKSHOP | edVentures
Interested in learning to dye your own fabric? In this weekend workshop we will be exploring how to achieve a variety of patterns using all natural materials like clays and soils. Play with colour using earth pigments from around the world, as well as many harvest right from the instructors region of Atlantic Canada. Participants will learn to prepare cloth for dyeing, experiment with pattern on a variety of samples and apply their final designs to a cotton bandana.
The Materials: $45 payable to the instructor the day of the course. Please wear clothes that can get messy, just in case!
The Instructor: Josephine Clarke is a textile artist from West Arichat, Nova Scotia. She explores the use of botanical dyes, earth pigments, and rust. Land-based activities that once influenced her rural upbringing now inform her practice. Josephine began her current residency with the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design after earning her Bachelor of Design. She teaches for community organizations such as the Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design, the New Dawn Centre for Innovation and events like the Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival. She has exhibited at Celtic Colours International Music Festival, and Lumiere Art at Night Festival.
