About this Event
Dye Your Own Indigo Scarf Workshop - Traditional Malian Cotton
with Mamoudou Nango from West Africa
Participants will learn how to fold and tie the cloth and complete the dyeing process in the indigo dye bath.. Once the cloth is dyed, and rinsed, they remove the ties and hang the textile to dry. Participants leave with the scarf or personal trxtile they dye.
We provide indigo dye bath and woven cotton scarf and accompany participants step by step in the dyeing process. Participants who prefer can also bring their own medium- sized cotton cloth to dye (placemat, napkin, t-shirt etc). The instructor will provide samples of handcrafted textiles produced using various dyeing methods such as stamped and traditional stitched designs as practiced in the Dogon region of Mali and will exchange with participants about the history of indigo and mud-cloth techniques in Mali.
This is your chance to get hands-on with traditional Malian cotton dyeing techniques! Join Mamoudou Nango from West Africa at Studio Two Three for a unique workshop experience. Learn the art of indigo dyeing and create your very own scarf to take home. Mamoudou will guide you through the process step by step, sharing insights into the rich cultural history behind this ancient craft.
