It's a new year, and we have work to do! To continue building communication skills, this month's meeting bring us a special facilitator, Linda Larsen, to guide us through communicating across political divides. Join us for this hands-on, interactive, content-rich session designed to help us preserve and protect our most valued relationships against political polarization. We will discuss (and practice) the following strategies:
How to prevent emotions from taking over our communication
The common human need that sets us up for failure in every conversation
How to respectfully end a conversation that we know is going nowhere · How to overcome the “but this is a SMART person! How could they believe this?” mentality
Words that work - to help the other person feel heard (without your having to agree with them)
Words to avoid - that instantly create defensiveness and shut down communication
While this workshop uses political differences to learn and practice these ideas, you will quickly see that these strategies can be applied successfully in any domain to build rapport, strengthen relationships, and resolve conflicts.
