Learn basic bonsai techniques to start transforming plants into bonsai. Learn why it is important to have a good soil mix, how to look at and prune roots, and how to choose the right angles when repotting. Take this knowledge home and apply it to other plants as well.

'Boba' the Dwarf Umbrella Tree, Schefflera arboricola 'variegata'
Native to Southeast Asia, my leaves are a glossy green and fan out like tiny umbrellas. In Feng Shui, I am used to capture positive energy and protect the home. I make a great apartment friend because I'm tolerant of many conditions, including some shady north facing windows and corners. Note: I'm am not a pet friendly plant.
Care: Water every 10-14 days, keep in low light to indirect light.
Symbolism: protection, ability to thrive even in the shadows
Materials Provided: One handmade small bonsai planter in white, one bonsai tree, soil, decorative rocks, necessary tools for repotting. Other materials on site available for purchase.
About the instructor/s:
Matthew Puntigam lived and worked in Tokyo for 7 years learning bonsai techniques and garden skills while apprenticing at a garden design and bonsai shop. He opened Dandy Farmer in 2016 to bring the art of bonsai to the NYC community.
