To Trondheim-musikerne Heida Mobeck og Alex Ventling møtes i Bioluminescence – en improvisasjonsduo som utforsker lydlandskap i stadig forandring. Som lys i mørket lar de musikken avdekke det som ellers blir liggende skjult – små bevegelser, skjøre klanger og korte glimt av lys. Heida har i mange år vært en tydelig stemme på den norske scenen og er kjent med Trondheim Jazzorkester. Alex, opprinnelig fra New Zealand og bosatt i Trondheim siden 2021, bringer sitt eget uttrykk inn i et felles musikalsk rom der grensene viskes ut og nye former kommer til live.

Jonas Cambien og Andreas Røysum har hver for seg utviklet særegne musikalske språk, som i løpet av det siste tiåret har blitt lett gjenkjennelige for tilhengere av forskjellige kreative tilnærmingsmåter til musikkskaping. Som ledere for egne grupper (f. eks Andreas Røysum Ensemble og Jonas Cambien Trio), og som bidragsytere i en rekke andre sammenhenger, har de to markert seg som standhaftige komponister og overskuddsdrevne improvisatorer. Selv er de ikke nødvendigvis så opptatt av binære skillelinjer, som f. eks mellom komposisjon og improvisasjon, og setter sammen pris på å tålmodig kunne utvikle nye formspråk sammen gjennom praksis.
Felles interesser i ymse former for transeinduserende musikk farger uttrykket; særlig den mer spirituelt ladde delen av den amerikanske jazzhistorien, Terry Riley sin globalt influerte ekstatiske minimalisme og forskjellige former for tradisjonsmusikk fra både den arabisk-talende verden og India. Det er dog heldigvis slik at ingen andre enn Cambien og Røysum, i 2025, kunne stått bak musikken.

Two Trondheim-based musicians, Heida Mobeck and Alex Ventling, join forces in Bioluminescence — an improvising duo drawn to shapeshifting soundscapes and obscure textures. Like deep-sea creatures glowing in the dark, their music illuminates what usually lies hidden — subtle movements, fragile resonances, and fleeting bursts of light. Heida, a long-time presence in the Norwegian scene and known for her work with Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, and Alex, originally from New Zealand and active in Trondheim since 2021, merge their sonic worlds into a living flow where boundaries dissolve and new forms appear.

Jonas Cambien and Andreas Røysum have each developed distinctive musical languages, which over the past decade have become easily recognisable to supporters of different creative approaches to music creation. As leaders of their own groups (e.g. Andreas Røysum Ensemble and Jonas Cambien Trio), and as contributors in a number of other contexts, the two have distinguished themselves as steadfast composers and surplus-driven improvisers. They themselves are not necessarily so concerned with binary dividing lines, such as between composition and improvisation, and together value being able to patiently develop new idioms together through practice. Shared interests in various forms of trance-inducing music colour the expression; especially the more spiritually charged part of American jazz history, Terry Riley's globally influenced ecstatic minimalism and various forms of traditional music from both the Arabic-speaking world and India. Fortunately, however, no one other than Cambien and Røysum, in 2025, could have been behind the music.
