With its breathtaking coastal landscapes, rugged hills, and rich cultural heritage, Dunedin is the perfect destination for the Australia/New Zealand Explorers Club gathering from 28–30 March 2025. This vibrant city, often called the “Edinburgh of the South,” offers a unique blend of natural beauty and history, making it an inspiring place for those passionate about exploration. As autumn paints the surrounding hills in golden hues, you’ll have the opportunity to experience Dunedin’s dramatic coastlines, home to rare wildlife such as albatross, sea lions, and little blue penguins. The nearby Otago Peninsula, one of New Zealand’s most scenic coastal drives, offers stunning views and a chance to walk in the footsteps of early explorers who charted these southern latitudes. The weekend’s events will be based at Tūhura Otago Museum, one of New Zealand’s most significant cultural institutions, where members will enjoy exclusive behind-the-scenes access to remarkable collections, including artefacts from the heroic age of Antarctic exploration—featuring items linked to Scott, Shackleton, and Hillary. Friday evening will begin with an informal drinks gathering, setting the stage for a weekend of engaging talks, discussions, and camaraderie. Saturday’s program includes a full day of meetings and presentations, culminating in a formal dinner where members can share stories and insights from their latest adventures. Sunday is left open for personal exploration, whether that means venturing out to the Otago Peninsula or soaking in the atmosphere of Dunedin’s historic city centre.
Accommodation options range from boutique heritage hotels to modern serviced apartments, ensuring a comfortable stay for all attendees. Join us for a weekend of discovery, connection, and inspiration in one of the southern hemisphere’s most remarkable cities.
