Dumb Supper: A Sacred Silent Meal of ConnectionWhat would you do for one more meal with a departed loved one?
The Dumb Supper is an ancient ritual of silence and devotion. At this gathering, each guest chooses one departed loved one to invite. A seat will be set beside them, and a three-course meal will be served in their honor. The supper will unfold in reverse order, as tradition dictates:
Third Course (served first): Winecake, a secret recipe passed down through Jennifer’s family for generations. A recipe once prepared in the palaces of Austria and Germany, handed down only to daughters by blood.
Second Course: Rigatoni with Jennifer’s grandmother’s sauce, honoring her memory and the way food connects us to our roots.
First Course (served last): Breads and cheeses, grounding the ritual in simple nourishment.
This supper will be held in complete silence and in darkness, lit only by candlelight. Guests may bring a container if they wish to take their loved one’s meal home afterward; otherwise, it will be respectfully offered outdoors to the wildlife.
The evening will be led by Aimee and Matt of The Crow’s Nest, who will guide participants through the entire ritual, holding sacred space, leading the flow of the meal, and ensuring the integrity of the tradition is honored throughout.
Preparation for Attendees:
1. Wear black to honor the solemnity of the ritual.
2. Bring an item that belonged to or reminds you of your chosen departed loved one.
3. Bring a notebook and pen to capture all the conversation with your loved one.
Limited to ONLY 9 GUESTS (each guest is paired with their beloved departed).
