Ballet Afrique, Austin’s only Black-owned en pointe dance company proudly presents the 2025 production of Duke Ellington's The Nutcracker Suite, a performance that not only honors tradition but also embraces the power of innovation and collective spirit. Join us on Monday, December 15th, 6pm at The Historic Paramount Theatre for an unforgettable evening that reimagines the classic holiday tale through the vibrant lens of Harlem's jazz era.
Set against the backdrop of the Harlem Renaissance, this year's production promises to be an immersive experience, drawing the audience into the lively streets and the warm, bustling atmosphere of a Harlem apartment. The story of Claranette and her family's journey through resilience and triumph unfolds with a fresh twist, featuring a dynamic tap solo, a soulful singing number by Mother Ginger, and an interactive element where the audience participates in deciding the outcome of the thrilling rat battle, all set to the score of Duke Ellington.
The 2025 cast features an extraordinary lineup of leaders and artists from Austin’s Black community, each bringing their own creativity, charisma, and cultural pride to the stage. This year’s production stars Jermaine and Jahmaal Dumes, owners of Cajjun Eats, stepping into the roles of the Rat King and the Nutcracker, alongside powerhouse vocalist Tameka Jones as Mother Ginger. And that’s only the beginning…
Join us for an unforgettable evening of celebration, storytelling, and cultural richness—an experience designed to captivate, inspire, and enchant the entire family.
