One day course – at Troed yr Harn Farm
This will be a hands on practical day focusing on the principles of building a dry stone wall.
In the morning session participants will work individually, preparing and building the first few courses of a practice wall. In the afternoon we will work as a group, building a retaining wall on the site.

Date: Saturday 20th August
Time: 9am – 5pm
Location: Troed yr Harn Farm. Meet at Talgarth Car Park at 9am.
Our campus is a car-free site, so we will be meeting at the car park and walking to the Farm together. This is a moderate uphill walk of 35-40 minutes. We will be leaving at 9.15am ready to start the course for 10am. If you are unable to complete the walk, we will organise car shares and provide directions to site from the car park.
Please bring a water bottle and a packed lunch for a picnic. Tea & Coffee available!
You should wear suitable, weather dependent PPE including gloves and good, sturdy boots if possible.

Who will I learn from?
Stuart Iles
Stuart began walling in the Cotswolds and then the Brecon Beacons some 30 years ago. Walling has for the most part been a part-time pursuit and now consists of occasional projects including walling tuition and improver sessions with National Park volunteers. Circular Dry stone buildings have been an interest over the years.

We have 4 free tickets available for Powys residents, with thanks to the UK Community Renewal Fund. First come, first serve!

We would like our short courses to be available to all regardless of ability to pay. We, therefore, ask you to pay what you can towards this event. We have tickets available at a lower rate of £15, and at a higher rate of £75. If you will struggle to purchase a ticket, please get in touch with us at [email protected].

If you are purchasing a ticket, this is non-refundable. Depending on the uptake of the course we hold the right to cancel it, in which case you will be refunded.

BMC Accessibility and Fitness
As we are gradually developing our campus, we are making the learning spaces, courses and events more accessible. Depending on the topic of the course, some of them will involve spending time outside, often on uneven ground, or accessing footpaths in mountains and woodlands. As a consequence, these courses require participants to have a certain degree of fitness and stamina to be able to engage fully. We do aim to encourage as many people as possible to be able to participate so if in doubt then please contact us.
We use a 3-scale grading system to indicate the accessibility of a course:
1 – Fully accessible. This course takes places online or is fully taught in an (indoors) space that is accessible for wheelchair users. The course involves no or minimal walking, and doesn’t expect participants to access uneven ground.
2 – Less accessible. This course is partly taught outside. These sessions are part of the course but can be missed if needed. It might involve some walking and physical exertion, so a certain de
3 – Least accessible. This course involves spending large chunks of time outside, accessing uneven ground on our farm campus, walking uneven paths in mountains and woodland. These parts are integral parts of the learning. You are expected to have a certain degree of fitness and stamina.

For free tickets subsidised by the UK Community Renewal Fund, proof of your residential address will be required.
Tickets cannot be accepted for refund, exchange or resale.
BMC reserves the right of admission and the right to insist on basic standards of conduct.
In the event of a cancellation due to circumstances beyond BMC’s control the face value of the ticket is refundable.
Any person attending a BMC event consents to the recording and filming of themselves as members of the course unless you notify us beforehand.
It is prohibited to make commercial use of any tickets purchased from BMC.
BMC retains the intellectual property of all course content and materials.
