Power of Drums is a predominantly adult, community, African drumming group that meets on the second Saturday of the month, at Hill Street Baptist Church, Swadlincote, Derbyshire DE11 8HL.We are a friendly and fun group that is lead by Andy Harris, who is a knowledgeable, fun and experienced facilitator. Andy who also runs a drumming group in Nottingham and leads drum circles in schools etc.
However, our beloved Andy has been diagnosed with Stage 4 nose cancer that has spread to his liver so the group is hosting a fundraiser on his behalf, which will be hosted by Kaye Gillanders, who is also an experienced drummer and event co-ordinator.
The event will be an informal "have a go" afternoon (that's right, no charge!!!) and all ages and abilities are welcome to join us and play our djembes (African drums) and other types of drums and percussion instruments.
You do not need any musical experience to join us. Djembe drumming is fun for people of all ages and is a great stress reliever. 🪘
If you don't want to drum, there will be lots of percussion instruments to shake, rattle and roll 🍗🍗 or you can just pop in for a cuppa and take in the ambience. 😃🎶🥁🎸🪘
If you get thirsty or hungry you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and cake or biscuits for a small charge, whilst browsing the home made crafts and gifts that will be available to buy.
There will also be a "prize every time" tombola so no one will go home disappointed.
There is access for disabled persons to the church hall and parking is free for three hours at Morrisons which is nearby.
