About this Event

COURSE OVERVIEW:

A drummer is the backbone of almost any band or music group in today’s musical landscape. Being “on time” is just a small portion of what makes a successful drummer. The better a drummer can understand their kit and the wide array of options available to them, the better they can take full advantage of their craft. Since everything involved with creating a drummer’s signature sound is subjective, this course is geared towards giving the students access to hearing (and playing) different tuning styles, head & stick selections, kit set-up, etc.

Students will also learn how to do basic drum repair, maintenance and troubleshooting as well as get the chance to refurbish a broken cymbal that they can take home with them.

COURSE FEATURES:

-Learn a variety of tuning techniques.

-Experiment with different drum kit setups & materials.

-Learn drum kit maintenance & repair.

-Learn proper playing ergonomics.

KEVIN GREENE:

Kevin Green has been playing drums for 17 years, professionally for 13 years. He's toured the United States and recorded albums with rock, pop, reggae, funk, blues, and folk groups. As a self taught drummer and world percussionist, Kevin learned though practice, discipline, hard work...and many mistakes. "Failure is a part of learning and you can’t be afraid of making mistakes. It’s how you work through those mistakes in training that make you a better musician." He's been dubbed, “Orlando’s Favorite Drummer” and currently plays in bands Run Raquel, Oklahoma Stackhouse, Jordan Foley & the Wheelhouse, Smash N' Trash, Chi & Ki, Jonnie Morgan Band, and Theo Moon.

JAMES WHITEHURST:

James Whitehurst started playing drums in 1990, and has been touring the world for the last 27 years with bands like Varanger, Hideous, Lividity, The Horde and Left4Dead...just to name a few. Although James has mostly played in metal acts throughout the years, his versatility as a drummer found him playing on the recording for a song called "Make Me a Deal" by Heather Green, that was nominated for Country Song of the Year by the International Music and Entertainment Association. Out of curiosity and necessity, James started learning about how to fix drums and how they worked. Since then he has been refurbishing and refinishing drums and cymbals, as well as addressing issues that ALL drummers have with their kits. He is currently still touring, doing studio session recording, drum tech work, teaching and repairing.
