ECSTATIC DANCE
Ecstatic dance is a free-form movement practice that encourages self-expression and connection through music. Key guidelines include no talking, no phones, and dancing barefoot, all to promote presence and connection with oneself and others. Respecting personal space and boundaries is also crucial, including obtaining consent before dancing with others.
Please do:
-Be Present: Embrace the music and movement, allowing yourself to fully experience the moment.
-Move Freely: Dance without judgment or predefined steps, exploring your body's natural movements.
-Communicate Nonverbally: Use body language and gestures to interact with others, if desired.
-Respect Boundaries: Seek verbal or nonverbal consent before initiating physical contact or partnering.
-Be Mindful of Others: Maintain a respectful awareness of your surroundings and fellow dancers.
- Dance Barefoot: This is a common practice to enhance connection with the floor and ground energy.
-Express Yourself: Allow your emotions and energy to flow through your body.
Please don’t:
-Talk: Ecstatic dance is a space for nonverbal communication.
-Use Phones or Cameras: Minimize distractions and focus on the present moment.
-Consume Substances: Ecstatic dance is a sober practice.
-Judge Yourself or Others: Embrace freedom of expression without self-criticism.
-Assume Permission for Contact: Always seek consent before dancing with another person.
