1) Community centric: There is a strong communal aspect to Cuban Salsa, as all the dancers have to work together to complete patterns and partner switches. For this reason no partner is required and no one will ever be left out of the circle of dance! Come solo, come with a friend, or bring a partner-it all works! Instead of each couple dancing in set pairs, couples dancing form a circle (a Rueda) and perform moves together to the calls (and often hand signals) of the “caller” (the one calling out the salsa moves).
2) All levels welcome: In Rueda everyone has an opportunity to dance all the time and we celebrate the spontaneous community we create by supporting everyone joining in regardless of experience level!
The contagious energy makes this a natural fit for building joy and community through dance!
