Join us for a 3-day event at Waitangi Station, Taumarunui, hosted by the Duncan family of Makahiwi Arabians. It’s happening from Friday, February 28 to Sunday, March 2. Whether you’re after a fun camping trip, a single-day ride, or a weekend of riding and crewing, this event has something for everyone. Plus, enjoy a prize-giving dinner and nightly social time.
What’s the Makahiwi Challenge❓
It’s New Zealand’s only multi-day endurance ride! Ride the same horse for 60km, 120km, or 200km over 3 days. Choose from 4 classes:
☑️200km Enduro
☑️120km Enduro
☑️120km RTT
☑️60km RTT
Qualifier rides (20km, 40km, 80km) are available to which you can choose to do either on the Friday, Sat or Sunday. And we’ve added a 5km RTT class Sunday perfect for our up-and-coming endurance lead rein riders.
The Big Three Challenge 💪
The Makahiwi Challenge is Event #2 of the Big Three series! Starting with the Waimeha Mandate Cup (120km) in January, then The Makahiwi Challenge 200km, and finish with the Waimeha Enterprise Cup (160km). Complete all 3 events to earn the Big Three Award!
Prize giving will be on Sunday, March 2nd, featuring catering, plenty of prizes, and a chance to celebrate your achievements over the weekend! Enjoy the festivities, delicious food, and socializing with everyone!
Dinner will be catered by Jodie Watts, who provided the delicious champs dinner last year - so you know it’s going to be great. Tickets are available for $30 per person, $20 for kids 12 and under, and just $1 for kids under 5. Dinner tickets can be purchased when you make your entry.
