Drink Mead, Learn Things - Of Fungus & Folklore

What do Santa Claus and snails from the age of dinosaurs have in common? Would you believe magic mushrooms? Everything you wanted to know about fungus, but were too afraid to ask, will be discussed in this Drink Mead, Learn Things where horticulturist and plant nerd, Maegan Luckett, will discuss the myriad of interfaces between fungi and human culture.
About Maegan:
When not dorking-out about fungi or being out of breath on a hike, Maegan Luckett is employed as the Horticulturist for the Blomquist Garden of Southeastern Native Plants at Duke University Gardens in Durham, North Carolina. In the Blomquist, Maegan is able to marry her twin passions for Ecology and Horticulture. While she is fascinated by all of the native plants in the South, she is particularly fond of the carnivorous flora of the coastal plain.
Currently Maegan is a part-time Master’s student at North Carolina State University where she is researching the intersection of insect pollination behaviors and horticultural design. She looks forward to having more opportunities to educate the public about how their landscapes can help pollinators, and by putting what she learns into practice.
Please note that Maegan will be joining us from North Carolina via livestream, but this is an in-person event at the meadery. The presentation will be projected onto our large projector screen and we will have a microphone set up so that you can ask Maegan any questions you may have.
Note:
- We are an adult establishment. Minors 12+ years welcome when accompanied by a 21+ year adult
- Public seating is first come, first served. Mug Club members may request reservations
- Event is free to attend, but $5 per person minimum purchase required
- This is an in-person event, with no option to join the livestream remotely
