About this Event
Come learn about runes with a beer or mead in hand!
Centuries after the decline and end of runic writing traditions across most of northern Europe, there is still a widespread fascination with runes which has even experienced a resurgence over the last 100-200 years. While writing was the dominant use of runes during the Early Medieval period, the modern incarnation of runic interest centers largely around their use in divinatory and otherwise metaphysical applications.
Join Northwest Viking Alliance elder William Goetz for an exploration of this side of runic traditions. The lesson will begin with examples from the Migration and Early Medieval periods and discussions about how they relate to the worldviews of those peoples. Following this it will explore the history of modern runic mysticism; the good, the bad and the ugly; from the 16th to the 21st century.
A basic overview of general runic history will be included and no prior knowledge of these topics is necessary.
Our full kitchen and bar will also be open during the class. Your ticket includes a $5 bar/food credit. This event is welcome to all ages.
No refunds. Transfers allowed to future classes.
