About the Instructors
Alex Appah is an experienced skater with a deep love for the skate community. She enjoys bringing new people into the amazing skate community and teaching people the joy of skating. Alex has a background in dance (ballet, salsa), a performer in the circus arts (cyr wheel, aerial silks) and has performed in several sold out shows over the years. You can catch Alex skating the trails in Rock Creek park or in Anacostia with light up wheels. Alex loves traveling and brings her skates everywhere. She was featured on the August 2022 cover of District Fray Magazine. Her goal is to spread joy wherever she goes.

M. Antonio Silas, Ph.D. (known in the skate community as just “Silas”) initially began skating as a youngster, participating in his local speed skating and roller hockey teams. Right around high school, he put skating down to focus on other interests. Later in life, after relocating to Maryland, he discovered the local skate scene during a Thursday night session at Laurel Roller Skating Center. After that, it was a wrap; he started getting more entrenched in the skating community and eventually began teaching skating lessons. By leveraging his educational background, he is able to break down complex skating principles in a clear and concise way. As a lifelong learner, Silas’ biggest goal is to get his students to recognize their own ability and potential. Outside of skating, his interests include photography, video games, and naps.
