Dreaming Queer Futures: A Community Writing + Reading Workshop
Join Trans/gressive Writers' Workshop at The Ruby Fruit for an afternoon of generative writing, community connection, and radical imagination. Dreaming Queer Futures is a unique workshop that guides participants through the process of crafting bold, revealing 'desire statements'—poetic articulations of our deepest longings for personal and collective liberation.
From 1-3pm, we'll engage in a series of intimate writing sessions, drawing inspiration from the electrifying works of June Jordan, Audre Lorde, Sappho, and contemporary queer authors. Through guided prompts and exercises, we'll tap into desire as a source of creative and political power, giving voice to the yearnings that pulse through our bodies and communities.
Participants will have the opportunity to share their freshly birthed desire statements in small groups, receiving supportive feedback and encouragement from fellow writers. Together, we'll explore how our most intimate longings can fuel our movements for social change, and how the poetic and the political intertwine.
The workshop will culminate in a community reading from 3-4pm, where participants can share their desire statements with the wider public. Prepare to be moved, aroused, and activated by this chorus of liberatory longing.
But the journey doesn't end there. After the event, Trans/gressive Writers' Workshop will compile participants' desire statements for publication in an e-book anthology, amplifying our collective dreams and expanding their reach. By participating in Dreaming Queer Futures, you'll become part of a historic artifact and an enduring testament to the power of queer imagination.
