Paper Engineering: Dream Builders STEAM Program
Does your middle schooler love creating and building things? Join us for Paper Engineering, an exciting hands-on activity where students will explore the surprising strength and versatility of paper as a building material! Designed for 5th-8th graders, this session will teach concepts in physics, mechanics, and material science through different paper-making techniques that challenge kids to think like engineers.
Schedule:
- 9:30-11:30 am: Students will dive into the world of paper engineering, working in teams to design and build their projects using various paper types and structures.
- 11:30-12:00 pm: Parents are invited to return for a special showcase, where your child can teach you about their engineering project and show off their new problem-solving skills! Participation is optional, but it's a great chance to celebrate what they've learned.
What to Expect:
- Creative Challenges: Students will tackle fun engineering problems, like building the tallest or strongest paper structures, while learning how simple materials can turn into impressive feats of engineering.
- Hands-On Learning: With plenty of tools and materials at their disposal, participants will get to experiment with paper in ways they've never imagined—turning theory into action.
- Innovation and Teamwork: By working together, students will brainstorm, design, and test their projects, learning the value of creativity, collaboration, and perseverance.
Program Goals:
- Develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Foster creativity through fun engineering challenges.
- Build confidence in STEAM subjects and inspire a love for hands-on learning.
This unique experience not only teaches technical skills but also encourages kids to see everyday materials in new ways—helping them build confidence and curiosity that can last a lifetime!
