About this Event
The DRC is going through one of the deadliest armed conflicts in modern history with over 6 million killed. The ongoing armed conflicts in the DRC affect multiple regions in the country, from the East to the West. In 2023, the UN published a report showing that nearly 7 million people in the DRC have been displaced as a result of armed conflicts. This represents Africa’s largest displacement crisis. Displaced people, who have lost everything including their homes and loved ones, continue to be targeted and attacked. On May 3rd 2024, an artillary attack on the Mugunga camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in eastern DRC killed more than 30 people and injured more than 100. This dinner is held to bring light to the sufferings of the Congolese people and discuss ways in which the US government and the Congolese diaspora can engage to help end the cylce of violence and bring about peace and stability in the DRC.
