William Yu's drawings of fine art model Sydney from Tuesday's drop-in figure. Take his 3 Day Workshop: Drawing the Figure with Charcoal. Sundays, October 12, 19 & 26 from 5-8pm. For beginner to advanced artists. Offered through Art of Modeling, held at the NoBo Art Center. Oct 12: Part 1: Gesture and Line Drawing. Discover the dynamic qualities of the figure in any pose. Learn the basis of every figure drawing - the gesture. Using the simplest of tools , we will learn how to capture the essential movement inherent in a model's pose. This class will focus on observation and its connection to the artist's hand. The goal will be to gain the confidence to create gesture drawings full of dynamic energy which will be the basis for finished drawings.
Oct 19: Part 2: Proportion, Sight-Sizing, and Measurement. We will practice methods for accurately rendering the figure from life using methods of measurement to create proper proportions in our drawings. Students will use plumb lines, measuring lines, and sight-sizing to depict the figure in two dimensions.
Oct 26: Blocking-in, Describing Form, and Simplifying the Figure. Using charcoal to block in the figure and leveraging our knowledge and skills gain from the previous two workshops, we will take a drawing from gesture to block-in to a finished state.
About the Instructor:
William Yu, trained briefly at Boston University’s School of Fine Arts where he was a painting major for two years, William has spent the past 30 years doing figure drawing, landscape painting, and generally filling sketchbooks. He draws his influence from pop culture, nature, and the work of the European masters but doesn’t believe in setting boundaries or rules for art. He does believe that all art stems from a solid foundation of drawing regardless of the media that an artist chooses. @yu3studios @noboartdistrict
