Drawing a portrait can feel intimidating, especially when striving to capture a likeness.
About this Event

Many artists struggle with proportion, symmetry, and aligning features—a challenge that can make even seasoned creatives hesitate to attempt portraiture. In this workshop, we’ll tackle these hurdles head-on using the time-tested grid technique, a powerful tool for artists at any skill level.

The grid method simplifies the process of sketching by breaking down complex images into manageable sections, helping you focus on proportions and placement with precision. With step-by-step guidance, you’ll learn how to apply this technique to create more accurate and expressive portraits.

Using charcoal, you’ll explore the nuances of shading, texture, and depth, bringing your portraits to life. All art supplies will be provided, and you’ll take them home at the end of class so you can continue refining your skills and building confidence in your artistic journey.

Whether you’re a beginner or looking to strengthen your portrait-drawing abilities, this workshop offers the tools and techniques to help you succeed. Join us and get ready to get dirty- with charcoal that is.

Art supplies included: Compressed charcoal sticks (soft, medium and hard), willow charcoal, blending stumps, tortillons, kneaded eraser, and eraser pencil.
