A life drawing and movement workshop exploring figurative work by black queer painters and photographers.
About this Event

This workshop, led by Jacob V. Joyce, invites participants to challenge the binary between artist and subject by mirroring poses in figurative artworks with our own bodies. Through embodying the compositions and gestures of these artworks we will attempt to understand their sensual and energetic potential. There is no obligation to be drawn by others but there will be an invitation to sit for 5 minute poses for those who are comfortable to do so. All poses will be ones of relative ease and the comfort of our bodies will dictate the ways we choose to reflect them. Inks, pencils, pens, brushes and large good quality paper will be provided as well as fabrics and props to help us embody the artworks.

The space that this workshop holds is queer but open to all black people and people of colour.

The theme of the artworks we will explore is Rest and Refusal. The works include the following:

Works form the Self Evident series - Ingrid Pollard

Works from the Zabat series - Maud Sulter

We Will Be - Laubaina Himid

Tobi - Jeniffer Packer

Until We Seperate (Mom) - D’Angelo Lovell Williams

This event is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
