Session 1: Drawing leaves/foliage.
You will learn to draw different flat leaf shapes first by sketching in boxes, making rubbings and tracings and then by measuring between points. We will add some tones to our leaves.
Break/Snack
Session 2: Flowers and foliage in vertical position. We will develop our drawing techniques to explore flower and leaf shapes when they are vertical. We will measure points using dividers and look at negative space. We are looking for accuracy drawing at life size and tackling foreshortening. We will learn the terminology of flower parts from our cross sections.
Break/Lunch
Session 3: A Focus on colour. We will discuss different techniques and compositions for creating a final painting or drawing. We will combine our drawing skills with the application of colour building up layers of colours by blending coloured pencils or mixing paint to make swatches. We will explore highlights and shadow colours. Using our knowledge of drawing and painting from earlier sessions we will work on completing a flower or plant painting or drawing.
Before we finish we will celebrate with a tabletop exhibition of best work and discuss next steps/courses/ societies.
