3-Day Clown workshop with Fiona Griffiths presented by the Montreal Clown Festival. This workshop is in English with French translation available upon request.

This fun and challenging course will improve your creation and performance skills. Enjoy frolicking with your clown persona, defining and refining the message for your turn, assessing your work, improving audience skills and making your turn repeatable.
Using Pochinko’s 10 clowns rules and Linda Putnam’s 10 assessment principles, you will walk away with major tools for opening up the world of your clown while constructing and performing their stories.
In the process we will explore the foundation of the Clown/Turn structure: Present Yourself, Take me into your World, and Leave me Transformed.
Each class will be divided into body process and acting/scene study. Clown experience and training is necessary. Feel free to bring a turn to work on or develop your turn ideas throughout the course.
There will be some readings and homework pre-course.

Dramaturgie du Clown : Des règles ? Pas de règles ??
Ce cours ludique et exigeant améliorera vos compétences en création et en performance. Amusez-vous à jouer avec votre personnage de clown, à définir et affiner le message de votre numéro, à évaluer votre travail, à perfectionner vos interactions avec le public et à rendre votre numéro reproducible.
En utilisant les 10 règles du clown de Pochinko et les 10 principes d’évaluation de Linda Putnam, vous repartirez avec des outils précieux pour enrichir l’univers de votre clown tout en construisant et en interprétant leurs histoires.
Au fil du cours, nous explorerons la structure fondamentale du Clown et de son numéro : Présente-toi, Emmène-moi dans ton monde, et Laisse-moi transformé.e.
Chaque séance sera divisée en un travail corporel et une étude de jeu/scènes. Une expérience et une formation en clown sont nécessaires. Vous êtes invité.e à apporter un numéro sur lequel travailler ou à développer vos idées de numéro tout au long du cours.
Des lectures et des devoirs vous seront assignés avant le début du cours.

Fiona Griffiths ( MFA, MA, RN), is an acclaimed multimedia theatre artist with extensive performing & touring experience in dance, theatre and clown. A graduate of Concordia University and The University of London, UK; Fiona has taught in many university theatre programs including the graduate programs of York and Yale Universities, the Toronto Dance Theatre, and the Manitoulin Centre for Creation and Performance. She studied and taught with Richard Pochinko, Karen Hines, and Jon Davis and has coached many clowns including Mump and Smoot, Pochsy, Christel Bartelse, Pearle Harbor. Fiona is also a senior multidisciplinary artist with The Toronto Artists Network. Recently she coached Steife Brise and taught a workshop for the TORN Comedy Improv Festival in Hamburg Germany.
