About this Event

Hepburn Shire Council is inviting the community to attend a series of in-person drop-in sessions as part of the consultation for the Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMP) 2026–2029. These sessions are an opportunity for residents to speak directly with Council officers, ask questions, explore the key themes in the draft Plan, and share their views in a relaxed, informal setting.

The draft DAMP outlines Council’s approach to managing dogs, cats and domestic animal issues over the next four years. It responds to what the community told us in earlier surveys and engagement activities, along with changes in legislation, local trends, and ongoing expectations around responsible pet ownership, community safety and environmental protection. The drop-in sessions allow residents to learn more about the proposed actions in the Plan, including topics such as cat management, dog behaviour in public spaces, nuisance issues, wildlife impacts, education and enforcement approaches, and opportunities to support improved pet management across the Shire.

These sessions are designed so you can arrive at any time during the advertised window. Staff will be available at information tables to talk through the draft DAMP, explain the evidence and feedback that informed it, and provide printed materials for you to take home. You can also provide your feedback on the spot or later through Participate Hepburn. Whether you have a specific question, want to understand the Plan more clearly, or simply wish to share your experience as a pet owner or resident, the drop-in format gives you the flexibility to engage in a way that suits you.

Everyone is welcome—pet owners, non-pet owners, businesses, animal welfare groups, visitors and anyone interested in how the Shire manages animals. Your feedback will help refine the final Plan before it is presented to Council for adoption. By participating, you are contributing to a balanced and more effective approach to animal management that supports responsible ownership, protects our environment and promotes safety and liveability across Hepburn Shire.
