About this Event
Dr. Tonea Stewart debuts the "American Theatre of Being" workshop at the JXN FILM FESTIVAL™. The American Theatre of Being was founded by the late Frank Silvera. Silvera along with Vantile Whitfield created a philosophy of being to train African American actors in the late 1960s. Silvera trained using this method until his untimely death in 1970. Acclaimed actors of stage, television and cinema such as the late Esther Rolle (Florida of "Good Times"), Mississippi native, the late Beah Richards, the late Whitman Mayo (Grady of "Sanford and Son"), and Dr. Stewart herself were all students of Silvera and practioners of "BEing."
Dr. Stewart has collaborated with former students, colleagues and practioners to formalizing the BEing method in the effort to leave a lasting legacy for aspiring practioners and the world at-large.
