SHOW BEGINS AT 6:15PM
Singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, emcee, producer, and world-traveling entertainer are a few ways to describe the notorious New Orleans novelty known as Dr. Sick. Those in the know refer to him simply as the fiddle killer, since the violin is considered his main instrument. With influences ranging from Tom Waits to Blind Willie Johnson, Danny Elfman to Cab Calloway, Eartha Kitt to Berthold Brecht, he can engage with audiences on a personal level no matter the size of the crowd. As musical director of the Squirrel Nut Zippers, he's played to hundreds of thousands of screaming fans on four continents. Leading a dozen New Orleans bands of all shapes and sizes, The Trained Professionals is his latest project, self-described as "farm-to-table tailor-made jazz". This rotating cast of players includes several Grammy Award-winning musicians with resumes that would break the internet. Among the regulars are Russell Welch III (guitar), Hank West (sousaphone, tenor sax, trumpet), Matt Perrine (sousaphone), Marty Peters (tenor sax), Dallas Vietti (free-bass accordion), Dave Hammer (guitar), Wes Anderson (tuba, trombone), Aurora Nealand (soprano sax), Leslie Martin (piano), Matt Booth (upright bass), Dominic Grillo (tenor and baritone sax), and on special occasions the living legend James Singleton (upright bass). The Trained Professionals usually performs as a trio, capturing elements of several bands led by Dr. Sick. For more info, visit fiddlekiller.com
