Brechtovi uvidi se v kritičnih trenutkih aktualnega političnega in filozofskega diskurza pogosto izkažejo za koristne. Na primer: Ko so ogroženi varnost, zdravje ali preživetje človeštva, naj zanje žrtvujemo vse? In kako naj obravnavamo lastna mnenja? Kakšen je naš odnos do njih? Imamo mnenja mi sami ali imajo mnenja nas?
Je dobro življenje mogoče? Ali pa nas prizadevanje zanj zasužnji? Je človekova želja inherentno neizmerna in neizpolnljiva? Ali pa je sreča zlahka dosegljiva, ko nam uspe opustiti noro idejo o »sreči zmagovalnega dobitka na loteriji« in enako nor strah pred njo?
Dr. Robert Pfaller je avstrijski profesor filozofije. Filozofijo in kulturologijo je predaval na univerzi za umetnost in oblikovanje v Linzu (Universität für künstlerische und industrielle Gestaltung) ter na dunajski Tehniški univerzi. Med 2009 in 2014 je kot profesor filozofije služboval na dunajski Univerzi za uporabno umetnost. Od 2019 se posveča profesuri filozofije na linški univerzi za umetnost in oblikovanje.
Po predavanju se bo z dr. Pfallerjem pogovarjal 𝐝𝐫. 𝐌𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫.

Bertolt Brecht's insights can often be helpful at critical points in the current political and philosophical debate. For example: When security, health, or the survival of humanity are at risk, should we sacrifice everything for security, health, or the survival of humanity? And how should we deal with our respective opinions? What is our relationship to them? Do we have them, or do our opinions have us?
Is a good life possible? Or does striving for it make us slaves? Is human desire inherently limitless and impossible to fulfil? Or is happiness easy to achieve once we manage to abandon the crazy idea of “jackpot happiness” as well as the equally crazy fear of it?
Dr. Robert Pfaller is an Austrian professor of philosophy. Pfaller initially taught as a professor of philosophy and cultural studies at the University of Art and Design Linz and at the Vienna University of Technology. From 2009 to October 2014, he was professor of philosophy at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Since 2019, he has been professor of philosophy at the University of Art and Design Linz.
After the lecture, a conversation between Dr. Pfaller and 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 will follow.
The lecture series 𝐼𝑡’𝑠 𝑇𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝐵𝑟𝑒𝑐ℎ𝑡! is part of the year-long project 𝑏𝑟𝑒𝑐ℎ𝑡 70 (bit.ly/4oP71To), which commemorates the 70th anniversary of the death of Bertolt Brecht.

Bertolt Brechts Ideen können in den aktuellen politischen und philosophischen Debatten oft hilfreich sein. Wir fragen uns: Wenn Sicherheit, Gesundheit oder das Überleben der Menschheit auf dem Spiel stehen, sollten wir dann alles der Sicherheit, der Gesundheit oder dem Überleben der Menschheit opfern? Wie sollten wir mit divergierenden Meinungen umgehen? In welchem Verhältnis stehen wir zu ihnen: Haben wir eine Meinung? Oder haben unsere Meinungen uns?
Ist ein gutes Leben möglich? Oder macht uns das Streben danach zu Sklaven? Ist menschliches Begehren von Natur aus unendlich und unerfüllbar? Oder ist das Glück leicht zu erreichen, sobald wir die verrückte Idee des „Jackpot-Glücks“ und die ebenso verrückte Angst davor aufgegeben haben?
Univ.-Prof. Dr. phil. Robert Pfaller ist seit 2019 Professor für Philosophie an der Kunstuniversität Linz. Zuvor bekleidete er Professuren und Gastprofessuren unter anderem in Amsterdam, Berlin, Chicago, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Wien und Zürich. Zu seinen Publikationen gehören u.a.: „Die blitzenden Waffen. Über die Macht der Form“ (2020), „Erwachsenensprache“ (2017), „Kurze Sätze über gutes Leben“ (2015), „Zweite Welten“ (2012), „Wofür es sich zu leben lohnt“ (2011), „Ästhetik der Interpassivität“ (2008), „Das schmutzige Heilige und die reine Vernunft“ (2008), „Die Illusionen der anderen“ (2002), „Althusser - Das Schweigen im Text“ (1997).
Die Vortragsreihe 𝑍𝑒𝑖𝑡 𝑓𝑢̈𝑟 𝐵𝑟𝑒𝑐ℎ𝑡! ist Teil des ganzjährigen Projekts 𝑏𝑟𝑒𝑐ℎ𝑡 70 (bit.ly/4oP71To) zum 70. Todestag von Bertolt Brecht.
