The Crowder College History Symposium returns! Dr. Powers’ talk will examine the ways former Confederates living in Honduras in the late 19th century participated in coup d'états and political maneuverings while also striving to become leading industrialists. While filibusters and banana companies have been widely studied, Dr. Powers sheds light on a more unexplored yet fascinating era wherein Southerners attempted to form a community as capitalist politicos in the rough and tumble world of Central America.
Dr. Powers is an assistant professor of history at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas.
This event is free and open to the public.
