The D&Q cookbook club is back! If a cookbook club is new to you, the idea is like a traditional book club, but instead of talking about a book we’ve all read, we all make a recipe (or multiple recipes) from a cookbook and share pictures our dishes on the event page and all together at a gathering at the bookshop. The club is hosted by Isabella Geddes and is free to attend. This season, we've chosen Start Here. In this epic guide to better eating, the chef, recipe developer, and video producer Sohla El-Waylly reimagines what a cookbook can be, teaching home cooks of all skill levels how cooking really works.
Across a dozen technique-themed chapters—from “Temperature Management 101” and “Break it Down & Get Saucy” to “Go to Brown Town,” “All About Butter,” and “Getting to Know Dough”—Sohla El-Waylly explains the hows and whys of cooking, introducing the fundamental skills that you need to become a more intuitive, inventive cook.
Join us by posting pictures of your creations on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter and use the hashtag #DQcooks. And join us in person with your own dish to share on Sunday June 2nd from 7 - 9 pm at La Petite Librairie Drawn and Quarterly (176 Rue Bernard O) with your dishes for a potluck!
Start Here will be 15% off at Librairie Drawn & Quarterly from now until the meeting date!

Librairie Drawn & Quarterly would like to acknowledge that our events and bookstores are located on the unceded territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka. Many of us refer to Montreal as our home, but it is named Tiohtiá:ke. It has always been a gathering place for many First Nations and continues to be home to a diverse population of Indigenous peoples. We are grateful that creating and sharing stories has been a part of this land for thousands of years.
