Dr. Felicia George will discuss her new book When Detroit Played the Numbers: Gambling’s History and Cultural Impact on the Motor City. “Playing the numbers” was a significant part of Detroit's culture and history, especially in the Black community. This book explores the intersection of race, politics, and social dynamics in Detroit's history, including how illegal numbers gambling evolved into a legal activity.
