New World Defense & Fitness in Fort Myers will host a four‑hour Irish stick‑fighting seminar on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The session will focus on the Doyle family style of Bataireacht, an authentic Irish martial art that blends one‑handed stick/shillelagh techniques with two‑handed, close‑quarter striking influenced by boxing and pugilismThe instructor, Tom Moore, is a certified Doyle Irish Stick Fighting instructor and the head of the O’Mordha Faction. Moore began his martial‑arts journey in 1988 in Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate and later trained in a variety of arts, earning a black belt and becoming a full instructor in Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do in 2008. In 2010, he became a Doyle family Bataireacht instructor under Sifu Glen Doyle and has since dedicated himself to preserving and promoting this close‑quarters Irish fighting system. Today, Moore divides his time between Florida and New York, offering seminars, private lessons, and coaching courses. His teaching emphasises practical self‑defence, efficiency, and respect for the tradition’s heritage.
