Given the state of things you may be asking yourself why we'd be putting effort into gathering people to dance in the public square. There are a few reasons:
🎉 Resistance to tyranny must be pleasurable or we will fail out of pure exhaustion. (Read Pleasure Activism by adrienne marie brown.)
🎶 Freedom is not just a concept, it is a lived experience. Dancing together in public is a life-affirming expression of the liberty we have be pledging allegiance to since we were kids.
💃 Humans will flourish to the degree to which we transcend the narrow-minded belief that our individual freedom is in conflict with the good of the whole. Dancing our unique moves with others doing the same is a way to practice being one and many at the same time.
As the indomitable anarchist Emma Goldman said, "If I can't dance, I don't want to be part of your revolution."
