On September 1, 2021, 125 people spent time at CPC’s make-shift evacuation center as Hurricane Ida’s flood waters forced people out of their homes or blocked their routes home.Downingtown Strong had developed a detailed guide for operating the next Evacuation Center at CPC and we are hosting an informational meeting for those interested in volunteering at the center during the next flooding emergency. We will explain the policies and procedures, the volunteers’ roles, and give a tour of the center’s operating space.
We need 12 to 14 people to properly run the center – through registering visitors, providing a safe, warm, and comfortable place to rest, and providing snacks and beverages until they can return home, arrange to stay with family or friends, or move on to a Red Cross shelter. There is a job for everyone!
