We’re so excited by this. Our wonderful joint weekend in Haworth village, with Yorkshire USK, attracted sketchers from far and wide. Some folk arrived on the Friday and stayed till Monday morning! Others left on Sunday. Some just came for one day. A bunch of us ate together, most evenings, in the White Lion and the atmosphere and sharing and sketches were just amazing. We promised a follow-up this year and here it is: somewhere totally different from the usual bigger, longer group events. It’s to be in the beautiful, peaceful countryside of the Ribble Valley in Downham village, said to be one of the prettiest in Lancashire. Where to stay, for those travelling in? Well, 2 places spring to mind straight away: The characterful Assheton Arms, right in the heart of the village, with tables outside and its own car park, and Greendale View Kitchen ( a Ribbler Tea Room Summer Meet favourite, with its delicious home made food): they have B&B rooms, 3 luxury glamping pods and serve breakfast to all-comers, too. Plus there are friendly pubs to drink in and stay, in Chatburn village just minutes away and home-made ice cream to die for, both in Downham village, by the river, or at the Chatburn ice cream shop. There is a village hall in Downham, too ( I ran a day workshop there, for Ribble Rivers’ Trust) if we all chipped in a little, we could maybe hire it for both days as a central meeting point, a refuge if it rains, a place to brew up in or have a glass or two….and somewhere peaceful to sit, as well and finish off sketches,
