Head to the edge of the Peak District with Abigail's Trails for this moderately challenging 9-mile (15km) route. This will be an enjoyable and informative walk with Clare, a professional qualified Mountain Leader (and avid outdoor enthusiast). This walk comes with amazing views from the moorland top. A short scramble up Birchen Clough takes us up along a great rocky escarpment with cool formations, including The Trinnacle and we head South to visit what was once the highest reservoir in England. An easy return takes us down past Dove Stone Reservoir, a popular spot for good reason!
The height gain in this walk is 1,750ft (535m) and most of this is obtained through a short scramble at the side of a small stream. This walk is best suited to those who are sure-footed and have reasonable fitness levels. However, instruction and support will be given to all participants throughout to ensure a fun day out to boost your confidence. Once up on the escarpment the route is easy going.
We will walk this route at a moderate pace, but will have a rest / lunch break enroute. Expected total time of 4.5-5 hours.
Well behaved, friendly (with other dogs and people), dogs are welcome (max. 2 per person), but please note we are likely to encounter livestock enroute. Dogs must be able to climb stiles or be lifted over them. If using retractable leads, please keep them short to avoid tripping up other participants.
As with all Abigail's Trails, this is a small-group guided walk led by a professional Mountain Leader. Spaces are limited, cost £16 per person and must be booked in advance through the ticket link.
Accompanied children over the age of 10 welcome.
Please ensure you have read and agreed to our Terms and Conditions and GDPR Privacy Notice prior to booking.
Further instructions and kit list will be emailed to you before the date.
