Dougie Poole is a musician from New York City,. He writes earnestly about the experience of living in a city that is often a bellwether for changes in pop culture – addressing topics such as life in the gig economy (“Vaping on the Job”), romance in the digital age (“Claire”), and the existential urge to relocate (“Los Angeles”) – making for a unique perspective in the often Nashville-centric Americana space. His 2020 release The Freelancer’s Blues was reviewed in publications such as Pitchfork and All Music Guide, in addition to being featured as one of VICE’s Best Albums of 2020 (“equal parts heavy and hilarious”). Despite its indie origins, singles from The Freelancer’s Blues kept pace alongside entries from genre heavies like Orville Peck, Kacy Musgraves, and Charlie Crocket on a handful of commercially dominated DSP playlists, with “The Who’s Who of Who Cares” being featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday upon release.
