Douceur: Kizomba experience - Musicality

Hello everyone,
I’m Alex, hailing from Lithuania. Some of you might know me as “the German guy” or “the guy from Christchurch.” Whether we’ve crossed paths before or not, I’m excited to connect with the Tauranga community.
I felt a burning desire to introduce something fresh to the Kizomba scene during my time in Christchurch. Now that I’ve spent a few weeks in Tauranga, I’m equally eager to share my passion with this vibrant community. And guess what? I’ve enlisted the help of the incredible Aom to take your dance experience to new heights.
Since 2017, I have been deeply immersed in the world of Kizomba. My journey commenced in the United Kingdom, continued through Lithuania, and led me to various European festivals. Along this path, I meticulously honed my unique style.
I began my dance exploration with Kizomba, Semba, fusion, urbankiz, tarraxo, urban tarraxa, and douceur. Eventually, I discovered my true self within MKIZ, a concept pioneered by Albir Rojas. My decision to teach Kizomba stemmed from a burning passion for this dance form and a desire to address the often neglected aspects of connection and musicality in classes.
Now, let’s talk about Aom. Born in Thailand, and raised in Aotearoa, Aom is a Kizomba dancer, teacher, and artist based in Tauranga. Winning two gold medals in the NZ Latin Dance Championships 2023 (Kizomba category) she holds the current title for the NZ Kizomba Champ in both Freestyle and Jack n Jill categories. Her dynamic style of dancing and musicality has gained her recognition for being a sensational female lead on the social floor.
“My ongoing love and passion for Kizomba continues to grow daily and drives me to become a better dancer, DJ, and a passionate teacher to the Tauranga Kizomba community."
Aom's passion for Kizomba influenced her devotion to this dance style and its vast range of music, and through her journey, she has crossed paths with some of the best instructors known in the Kizomba/Semba world.
Her approach to teaching is student-centered. She is great at allowing her students to work within their personal style while perfecting their fundamentals. Her down-to-earth personality and sense of humor also allow for a more relaxed learning environment. She can't wait to share a dance with you!
If you’re curious about different perspectives on Kizomba, join us! Together, we’ll explore the magic of connection and musicality on the dance floor. Both classes are connected and not the same.
I'd like to remind you that other social dancers can join regardless of which style you dance salsa, bachata, lindy hop, etc. It's fundamentals for all of them.
Remember the golden rule: “80% is about making your partner smile, and 20% is about showcasing your moves.”
To me, Douceur (sweetness) in Kizomba equals Connection + Musicality. Let’s dance, learn, and create unforgettable moments together!
