About Stacey:
Stacey Dixon grew up in Shirley, Christchurch. She began the oboe with Susan McKeich at the Shirley Instrumental Scheme, and thereafter with Keith Sayers at the CSM. She spent many days a week at CSM with lessons, chamber music, the CYRE, as
a member of almost every orchestra, and finally as a teacher herself, from her first days at CSM in 1988, until 1996.
She gained a BMus(Hons) with Robert Orr at Victoria University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Orchestra Performance with John Anderson (oboe) and Mike Winfield and Christine Pendrill (cor anglais) at the Royal College of Music in London. Stacey
worked as a freelance player while continuing to study privately with Christine, working with orchestras including the Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, and RTE National Orchestra of Ireland. In 2008 Stacey moved to Norway to take up her current job as a member of the oboe group of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (SSO). She works often as a guest substitute for other orchestras in Norway and Scandinavia, including the symphony
orchestras of Bergen, Kristiansand and Trondheim, the Norwegian Opera, Odense Symphony Orchestra (Denmark) and Esbjerg Ensemble (DK); and occasionally with the NZSO, on trips back to NZ. Stacey plays oboe, cor anglais and oboe d’amore regularly as part of her job, and has even played the Lupophone (a kind of Heckelphone), three sizes of recorder, and a tin whistle, on stage for various SSO concerts. She has taught regularly at both the Sandnes and Stavanger music schools, and privately for several adult students. She is frequently on teaching staff for the annual
seminar of the Norwegian Double Reed Society (DORFest). In 2025, Stacey is part of the organising committee for DORFest in Stavanger, where the guest professors will be Francois Leleux (oboe), Ole Kristian Dahl and Audun Halvorsen (bassoons).
Stacey takes great inspiration from continuing to have lessons herself from a variety of musicians, and attend masterclasses, whenever possible.
