Sighthounds on the Lam (SOL) will hold straight racing (WRA, LGRA) on Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6, 2025. These meets will consist of 4 programs for whippets & 3 programs for other breeds. All breeds, with the exception of Scottish Deerhounds and Irish Wolfhounds will be boxed. There will also be fun races for Dash Dogs (AKC PAL or non-eligible whippets). The event will be held in Camden, SC.
Field Conditions:
The field is a grass horse track with a sand base.
**Please note that areas of the property have cactus and sand spurs, especially the infield of the horse track. Pay attention to the ground when walking your dogs. The surface of the horse track is well maintained, and we would recommend staying on the track itself.

Late entries (gate entry) will be accepted until 8 a.m. the day of the race. Pre-entries are strongly recommended and preferred. Payment not required until the meet.
Entry Fees:
Single dog entry: $20.
Two or more entries from the same owner: First four dogs $15 each. Fifth dog or more $5 each.
Day-of entry - $25 each.
We encourage entry fees to be paid via PayPal to SOL.sighthounds@yahoo.com (will come up with the name of our Treasurer Robin Horner). If using PayPal, please use the "sending to a friend" option, and include a note with your name, your dog's name, and what event/day you are paying for.
Roll Call:
Roll call and inspection will start at 8:30 am each day. It will immediately be followed by the draw and beginning of the first program.

FTEs:
All First Time Entered (FTE) dogs must be previously registered with the racing organization in which they are competing (WRA or LGRA).
If not already registered, for WRA and LGRA, you must bring a photocopy of the AKC (or UKC for Silken Windhounds) papers for the race secretary the day of the race meet. NGA papers or Volume and Certificate Number will be acceptable for NGA greyhounds. There will be NO exceptions. Your FTE dog will not be allowed to race if you do not comply before the end of roll call.
All FTE dogs must pay a one time registration fee to the organization they race with - $2 for LGRA and $5 for WRA.
All FTE's must discuss running experience and qualifying runs with the appropriate race secretary prior to entering. Pre-certification runs may be offered Friday afternoon or on a very limited basis Saturday morning before the meet only if prior arrangements have been made. See Practice & Certifying section below for more details.
Practice & Certifying:
Practice will be available on Saturday, between programs and after the meet, and on a more limited basis on Sunday between programs, as time permits. Practice and certification may be offered Friday afternoon depending on whether there is enough interest and personnel available. If Friday practice is not offered, certification runs may be done Saturday morning with prior arrangements. SOL will provide box practice for all breeds. Dogs who need certifying will have priority, followed by SOL members and then open practice. Practice is $5 per dog (free for SOL club members).
Certification runs depend on availability of the race secretary. Please contact the race secretary about the possibility of practice/certification runs prior to the day of the meet.

Camping:
Dry camping is allowed on the field. There are no electrical or water hook-ups available. Generators are fine.
Amenities:

Everyone is expected to pick up after their dogs.
There is no running water close to the field.

By submitting entries and attending the meet, all owners agree with the following:

All owners shall hold harmless and defend from any claim for personal injury, illness or property damage arising out of participation in this race meet, Officers, Property Owners and Officials of Sighthounds on the Lam, Members of the Large Gazehound Racing Associations, the Whippet Racing Association, and the National Oval Track Racing Association . All Owners and Handlers agree to abide by the Official Rules of each sanctioning body in effect at the time of this race meet.
