Tracy Dundon
A Newcastle local and pared-back acoustic music enthusiast and sometimes performer, Tracy Dundon accompanies herself with Australian handmade acoustic guitars as well as slide guitar and open-back banjo.
Tracy’s repertoire ranges from belting rural blues and high lonesome banjo to covers of traditional and contemporary tunes and songs from North American and British folk lineages and influenced by the work of UK musician Martin Simpson, she covering artists such as Lucinda Williams, Ola Belle Reed and ‘Mississippi’ Fred McDowell.
Tracy is also an emerging singer-songwriter developing her own style of mystical and quirky acoustic folk songs which draw from the spiritual and natural worlds as well as the everyday trials and tribulations of cars, dogs and other relationships.
Tracy has performed at local house concerts and blues showcases and local festivals including Folk in Broke, Dungog Festival and St Albans Folk Festival.
PHIL BATES
If you like both modern and traditional songs sung with a warmth that comes from the heart, Phil’s your man. He’s been involved in the folk world for over 50 years and says that he “likes to really get inside a song, to inhabit it” before he feels ready to sing it. He started his folk music journey when he walked into the legendary Purple Parrot Folk Club in his native Newcastle, NSW, and realised that this was the music he loved. It wasn’t long before he went on to form the Rum Culls band with Pam and Norm Merrigan, Shane Kerr and Adam Macaulay, as well as performing as a solo singer and guitarist. He continued performing in clubs and at festivals for the next 50 years, picking up many songs along the way. Now retired and enjoying the quiet life, Phil still likes to share those songs with folk audiences.
He’s released two CDs, “Morningtime” in 2018 and “Ten Folk Songs About Work” in 2023.
Singer, guitarist and radio broadcaster, Phil’s a folk tragic!
