Enter the portal and witness Life On Earth conjure an entire show on the fly, full of genre-hopping melodies, left-field ragers, and awe-nourishing get-downs. The Nordic and Scottish folk-influenced sounds of violinist Alexandra Gorton collide with the vivid audio-visual explorations of interdisciplinary artist Frankie Dyson Reilly, in a set created in collaboration with Dots+Loops Performance Fellows. A thrash against your jazz-bone, a jab in the eye with a wailing saxophone, a punch in the jaws with a trash cymbal; behold the massive sound that is Valtozash, Australia’s first jazz-metal big band. In a special collaboration with our First Nations partner Cre8tive Nations, Sue Ray and POJI entrance us with a performance spanning soul, RnB, country, blues and roots, all paired with the spellbinding strings of Ensemble Cherubim. Corrupted digital gardens, video-call rituals, and ponderings on the spirituality of online Sudoku; enter the internet’s inner sanctum with guitarist Libby Myers, featuring special guests MJ O’Neill and Dots+Loops Composition Fellows Samuel Carrick and Leila Harris. Embodied cyclical patterns are explored through the fluid gestures of two mould-shattering Australian artists in "Circadian", a newly commissioned dance work by dancer/choreographer Lonii Garnons-Williams and violinist Kyla Matsuura-Miller. Our Performance Fellows reappear alongside enchanting experimental double-bassist Helen Svoboda, together weaving magical moments from overtones and electronics amidst abstract song-writing. Miami Washing Machine, the alt-pop alter-ego of Erik Griswold and Jodie Rottle, put us through the spin cycle in "Music For Laundromats", where flute, prepared piano and synths wash alongside dance moves and hype that get even the toughest stains moving. Best keep on your toes, surprise and delight lurk ‘round every corner with pop-up performances curated by Magandjin’s premiere Drag Gremlin GoGo Bumhole scattered throughout the night.
In between it all, grab a bite to eat or just relax and catch up with your fellow festival-goers. There’s something for all adventurous ears and eyes at NONSTOP.
