This three-day course is designed for safety professionals and compliance managers responsible for motor carrier safety program management. The course covers detailed requirements for managers and their associated duties and responsibilities, as well as the liabilities associated with motor carriers in transportation operations.Day 1 (Motor Carrier Operation) - Students will learn about safety audits and when the DOT regulations apply to their company's operation. Students will learn when a driver is required to have a CDL and the specific class. Students will learn which additional permits and licenses are required by motor carriers when engaged in interstate or intrastate commerce.
Day 2 (Driver Compliance) - Students will learn the process for hiring qualified drivers and creating complete driver qualification files along with the required contents. Students will learn the various exceptions and exemptions in the Hours of Service regulations, along with requirements for electronic logging devices.Students will learn about managing Drug and Alcohol testing programs and using the Clearinghouse Database.
Day 3 (Vehicle Maintenance) - Students will learn about vehicle maintenance programs and the required documentation for files. Students will then conduct a course exercise covering all learned concepts and understand how the differentiation between interstate and intrastate applicability.
