Dorsaf Hamdani wordt beschouwd als een van de grootste stemmen van Tunesië en heeft een brede muzikale belangstelling en achtergrond. Als student van Malouf, de Arabisch-Andalusische muziek van Tunesië, en van de semi-klassieke genres die in de 20e eeuw in het Midden-Oosten verschenen, leerde ze ook de westerse muziektheorie en experimenteerde ze met fusionmuziek, waarbij ze talloze prijzen ontving in haar land en in het buitenland.
Ze werkte met de grootste artiesten in de Arabische muziek, zoals Salah Ghoubachi of Selim Sahab. In 2010 nam ze samen met de Perzische zanger Alireza Ghorbani deel aan een project gebaseerd op de poëzie van Omar Khayyam, dat wereldwijd lovende kritieken kreeg.
Kijkend naar het oosten, richting Libanon en Egypte, naar de grote Arabische stemmen aldaar, leidde ze het project Emirat el Tarab (Prinsessen van Arabische Liederen), dat liederen samenbracht van de grote diva's uit het Nabije Oosten, zoals Oum Khalsoum uit Egypte, Fairuz uit Libanon, en Asmahan uit Syrië, die ze op haar eigen manier vertolkte, en met een groot ensemble werden uitgevoerd. Vandaag zal Dorsaf Hamdani voor het eerst deze liederen, dus van o.a. de beroemde Arabische diva’s Oum Khalsoum en Fairuz, ten gehore brengen in een pure, kleine formatie, enkel begeleid op ud.

Music from Oum Khaltoum to Fairuz
Recognised as one of the greatest voices of Tunisia, Dorsaf Hamdani likes to broaden her horizons, both in space and time. As a student of malouf, the Arab Andalusian music of Tunisia, and of the semi-classic genres that appeared in the Middle East in the 20th century, she learnt western music theory and experimented with fusion music, receiving countless awards in her country and abroad.
She worked with the greatest artists in Arabic music, such as Salah Ghoubachi or Selim Sahab. In 2010, she took part in a project, based on the poetry of Omar Khayyam, along with Persian singer Alireza Ghorbani, which was met with critical and public acclaim. Looking to the east, towards Lebanon and Egypt and the great Arab voices, she led the project Emirat el tarab (Princesses of Arabic Songs), which brought together songs by divas from the Near East, like Oum Khaltoum from Egypt, Fairuz from Lebanon, and Asmahan from Syria, that she interpreted her own way, and were performed with a big ensemble.
Today Dorsaf Hamdani for the first time will perform the songs from the famous Arabian divas, from Oum Khaltoum to Fairouz, in a pure, small formation, only accompanied by ud.
